South Carolina motorists can receive $1 for every old auto or marine battery they take in to any AAA Car Care Center or AAA-approved auto repair shop during AAA Carolinas' "Great Battery Roundup" through April 24 as part of Earth Week activities.
AAA shops are at 2031 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. in West Ashley, 1733 U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant and 9980 Dorchester Road in Summerville. Members and the general public can participate.
Separately, Whole Foods Market, including its Mount Pleasant store at 923 Houston Northcutt Blvd., will set up drop boxes for recycling wine corks in a partnership with Cork ReHarvest.

Firehouse Subs and the Public Safety Foundation, which has donated more than $2 million to public safety entities since 2005, have launched a "Chip In" program during April. A portion of the proceeds from any regularly priced combo meal goes to the foundation to help raise funds to improve life-saving capabilities of fire, police and EMS.
